. we'll keep you posted as soon as we learn anything. jon: thank you, rick. and a good tuesday morning to you, post 4th of july holiday. i'm jon scott. patti ann: and i'm patti ann brown in for jenna lee. we are on verdict watch in the casey anthony murder trial. the jury deliberating for its first full day. the seven women and five men spent six hours discussing the case yesterday. jon: of course they are charged with deciding whether casey anthony, the woman you see there, killed her 2-year-old daughter, or if, as the defense claims, little caylee drowned in the family pool, an accident that snowballed out of control. phil keith live in orlando for us. casey anthony's attorney was not in court this morning. why, phil? >> we don't know. apparently jose baez was running a bit late, as all of the spectators were exiting the courtroom after the judge asked the jurors whether they had headed hiheeded his admonitionst discussed anything about this case after they were released from court last night at 6:00pm. everybody left, the jurors went back into the delib kraeugs room. then jose baez
night at a philadelphia fund-raiser. the g.o.p. asked why he wasn't working on a deficit deal. jon cornyn was also at a fund-raiser last night. good morning, happy fourth of july weekend to you. can't we all just get along? >> apparently not in washington. listen, i think the president has a lot of reason to be frustrated with republicans. he offered them tax cuts back in the spring when they forced a government shutdown or threatening to force a government shutdown. he's put everything on the table. they have shown an unwillingness to compromise. it is an important issue in these economic times. it's not going to put a single american to work. it's not going to keep a single american in their home. it's time for them to do what they need to do, put it to bed and move along. >> can you criticize them when members of your own party are walking aassaying i'm not going to be part of this discussion anymore, until i get what i want. >> the republicans are trying to take a stand to not include tax. no one is shedding a tear about staying over fourth of july. republicans are digging in a
. jim sciutto, thank you. let's bring in senior political correspondent jon karl who's been all over this story since the beginning. we've got the boehner and reid plan. neither of these things can pass so what, if anything, is being done to craft some sort of compromise? >> reporter: well, there are, as you heard jim mention quiet negotiations going on between harry reid and mitch mcconnell. mitch mcconnell has been on the phone several times with vice president biden over the last several days trying to find one last-ditch effort to get what everybody knows needs to happen, dada that is something that has bipartisan support. i got to tell you, though, the atmosphere is so poisoned here, the question is once they get that agreement, can they pass it. >> well, let me pick up on it. there's been so much tough talk, even trash talk. i wonder if there is another wiggle room rhetorically for the hard-liners on either side to back down. >> reporter: i think -- maybe not the hard-liners but i think there is wiggle room. if you look at those two bills you have there, there is incredible com
over new hampshire and mitt romney is going to be spending some time there, also, as is jon huntsman. this the day after they finish their fundraising. jon huntsman's campaign said they raised $4 million. you'll see drips and drabs of that. we'll see how much money people have been raising, it might give you a sense of how well their campaigns are going. >> if you're trying to raise 0 money and get votes, you can't take the weekend off. tim farley, morning briefing on sirius xm potis. bill clinton sat down for a one-on-one with our wolf blitzer. >> how worried are you right now about president obama getting re-elected? >> well on today's facts i'll be surprised if he's not re-elected. i think people understand this recession was more severe than the one i had. >> who is the strongest republican candidate out there? >> i can't tell you. >> who do you fear the most? >> i think the president will win. but you know, as you might imagine, as a democrat who is -- i've always thought myself as pro growth, pro business, pro labor democrat, i like you know, i like governor huntsman, i like go
. >> reporter: jon huntsman? >> he's refreshingly kind of -- comes across as non-ideological. conservative, but practical. i think governor romney's doing a better job as a candidate this time than he did four years ago. i'm not surprised by how well michele bachmann's done. i've been watching her speak. she comes across as a real person. >> reporter: ever the political junkie. jake tapper, abc news, chicago. >>> and one of the reasons michele bachmann comes across as a real person is because she's willing to share so much about her personal life. last night, she opened up about suffering a miscarriage, a first for a presidential candidate. abc's sharyn alfonsi has more on the candidate who is putting her family's struggles and joys at the center of her campaign. >> reporter: it happened at a packed town hall meeting in south carolina. >> after our second chchd was born, we became pregnant with a third baby. and it was an unexpected baby, but of course we were delighted to have this child. and the child was coming along, and we ended up losing that child. >>>>eporter: the crowd stood still
. >> reporter: computer programmer jon bradley's software revealed the damning evidence. but after he testified, bradley tells nbc news he checked the results and discovered a software glitch. there was but one search for chloroform, not 84. defense attorney jose baez tells nbc news prosecutors never told him when they found that out, as required by law. but in a statement issued tuesday, the orange county state attorney's office said all of this information was disclosed to the defense in a timely manner. former federal prosecutor kendall coffey. >> prosecutors want to win, but they have to do it the right way. and that means a duty to turn over evidence that's helpful to the defense even if that causes the prosecutor to lose the trial. >> reporter: as both sides continue to spar outside the courtroom, we still do not know where casey anthony is. she could be at one of several mental health facilities that are not far from this location here. her lawyers certainly say she needs attention after spending three years solitary in a jail cell, or she could be in california at the beach. we just don
-- >> [ bleep ] you. >> reporter: remember the good old days when jon stewart was celebrated for using the "d" word to attack the host of a cnn show called crossfire. >> you're as big a [ bleep ] on your show as any other show. >> reporter: turns out mark halperin apologized a couple years ago for saying john edwards thinks obama is kind of a "p" word that means timid. now they've used the "d" word as well, gawker reports halperin has called obama both types of genitalia, look for the "d" spot, disconnect. >> one button, two button, four. >> reporter: jeanne moos, cnn, new york. >> all right. coming up next hour, he could have been france's next president. now word that the sex assault case against dominique strauss-kahn may crumble. we'll talk about his future and whether the u.s. legal system really dropped the ball. 55 minutes after the hour. a vacation on a budget with expedia. make it work. booking a flight by itself is an uh-oh. see if we can "stitch" together a better deal. that's a hint, antoine. ooh! see what anandra did? booking your flight and hotel at the same time gets you prices
million for the quarter. and speaking of spin another guy to watch is former utah governor jon huntsman, he may be one of the people that the democrats are most worried about, he pulled in $1.4 million since getting into the race not long ago at all. he's personally wealthy, though, at first he claimed he wasn't going to self-finance the race. now we're being told a little less than half of the $4 million came out of his own pocket. seed money they say. the campaigns have until july 15th to actually report those totals to the federal election commission, randi. >> and, joe, if you would, tell us about this guy carter, he now says he's running for president. >> yeah, well, look, this guy thad mccotter is someone we know from washington, d.c.? he's a congressman, he's from the state of michigan, and you may not know his name, but he's had five terms on the hill, so he's known pretty well. he plays the guitar, likes to quote the lyrics of rock 'n' roll bands, is supposed to make an official announcement at the fourth of july festival in his hometown over the weekend, and, yes, randi, he's
was former utah governor jon huntsman, the most moderate of the candidates vying for the anti-romney vote. huntsman has already ruled out competing in iowa and understands new hampshire is a must-win state. >> it is absolutely central to victory. this is a state you must win. >> reporter: in iowa, which votes first in a presidential contest, candidates were fighting for the social conservative vote. there were long shots newt gingrich and rick santorum. as well as tea party sensation michele bachmann. a recent poll has the minnesota congresswoman in a statistical dead heat with romney while gingrich and santorum barely made a dent in the single digits. tim pawlenty also polled poorly there. he raised a disappointing $4.2 million this quarter and has had no public event over the holiday weekend. but those in the bottom half of the poll can take comfort in the fact that the early polls don't tell us that much. this time four years ago mike huckabee was way down at 4% right where rick santorum is today. huckabee ended up winning iowa. >> jan crawford in washington this morning, thanks. >>> j
